我们大家知道，物质有常温下有气态，液态和固态之分，而固体又可进一步分为金属固体 和非金属固体。根据不同的物理状态和中文造字的形音意规则，化学元素的中文名字就被现代中国人全新设计出来了：
若是气体，元素名字则包括一个“气”字，如“氧”(O)；
液体则带有一个“三点水”，如“溴”(Br)；
若是金属，则有一个“金”字傍，如“铁”(Fe)；
非金属固体，则带有一个“石”字，如“碳”(C)。
除了物理状态，还可以根据该化学物英文名和它的特性进行中文名的音形意设计：
当今世上最“轻”的气体是“氢”气(将“轻”字左边的“车”字去掉，再加在“气”字的下面就创造出一个全新的现代汉字“氢”)；
最有营“养”的气体是“氧”气；
在空气中能将氧气冲“淡”的气体则是“氮”气；

就连近新发现的人造金属Am也有了一个中文名“镅”；
“畦”地里砂石的主要化学成分之一是“硅”；
“山”火烧后形成的固态炭“灰”，其化学成份当然是“碳”。
