Four Tones of Chines 汉语四声（han yu si szeng)

                                   

Chinese is a language, in which the tones convey differences in meaning. There are four basic tones. Since Chinese adopts the four-tone pronunciation system, the Chinese pronunciation is enlarged greatly. 

汉语是声调语言，声调有区别意义的作用。普通话有四个基本音调。由于汉语采用四声发音方法，所以是汉语的发音范围大为扩大。

Chinese has 1500 syllables, while English has only over 380.

汉语大约有1500个音节，而英语大约只有380多个音节。

The relative pitches of the tones can be divided into five degrees. “5” is the highest and “1” is the lowest. Within the 5 degrees, the four tones are formed, such as high tone, high rising tone, low-falling-rising tone, high-falling tone. 

汉语语音的音阶相对高度可以分为五度，五度最高，一度最低。在1-5度音阶中形成了有升、降、曲折变化的四个声调。他们分别是：高、高--升、低-降-升，高-降。

Examples:

例如：

妈(mā) matches to 5-5.  麻(má) matches to 3-5. 马(mǎ) matches to 2-1-4. 骂(mà) matches to 5-1.

八(bā) matches to 5-5. 拔(bá) matches to 3-5.  把(bǎ) matches to 2-1-4. 爸(bà) matches to 5-1.

西(xī) matches to 5-5. 席(xí) matches to 3-5. 喜(xǐ) matches to 2-1-4. 细(xì) matches to 5-1.
