   甲骨文像一足在前一足在后步行之形(省略人形),会意行进。《说文》注:“行也。从止,止相背。”步象一对足印记,一前一后,两足之间为一步。一左一右,两足交替前行亦称步。作名词,指事情进行之情形或阶段,亦指处境、境地。作动词,指跟随、追随。作量词,旧制5尺为一步。
