矢   甲骨文象箭杆箭镞之形，或象弩矢之形。《说文》注：“弓弩矢也。从入，象镝栝羽之形。古代夷牟初作矢。”矢为弓弩所用之箭矢（以竹为箭，以木为矢）。象形字，象箭矢形。上部象镝（矢尖），中象杆，下象栝，两旁象羽。据说古贤人黄帝之大臣夷牟发明矢。

失   甲骨文象箭矢之形。矢与失通。矢是箭，失则指箭射出而失控，义为丢失或纵失。《说文》注：“纵也。从手，乙声。”失义为丧失、遗失、丢失。与“得”相反。引申改变、背离、违背、失控、过错等。未能达到愿望或目的，亦曰失。
