四、汉字推广的展望
“汉字必将走向世界”这是我对汉字发展的展望。
中国汉字的特点：一是以形表意，形音结合，表现力特强；二是象形文字由无数密码构建而成，包涵的信息量大；三是汉字特别适合计算机语音的模糊识别，快速扫描，也特别适合计算机的语言输入，而且在电脑上每个汉字只占两个字节，占用空间少，传输速度快；四是形声义三者结合，是人类大脑左右两个半球可以协调动作的复脑文字，对人类智慧的开启具有巨大潜力；五是结体美观，内涵丰富，韵律感强，兼具形体、内涵、音韵三者结合之美。汉字的优越性、科学性、艺术性已为世界上越来越多的专家、学者所重视。我们不需要妄自菲薄，也不要固步自封。应当看到汉字推广的步伐与英文的强势的发展存在很大差距。作为炎黄子孙的后代，我们的责任一是要总结经验教训，把我们国内的汉语教学搞得生动活泼，加速儿童和青少年掌握汉字的速度和深度；二是要采取先进可行的方式，使国外的汉语教学取得长足的进步，帮助外国朋友用简捷明了的方法，尽快掌握汉语学习的方法，让汉字走向世界，让中国文化加速走向世界。
围绕这个目标，我们试着做两项努力：一是想通过汉字的生动形象介绍，使外国朋友能从汉字的形态和结构中，从汉字的密码破译中，去理解和掌握汉字的字义，举一反三，加快识别、记忆和理解汉字的速度。这也就是出版中英双注《趣味解码学中文》的理想所系。二是建议在语音上提倡“两条腿走路”的方法，一方面使用汉语拼音方案，辅助外国朋友掌握汉字的读音、方法；另一方面采用中英沟通注音的方法，让更泛的没有机会在学校接受中文教学的外国朋友，以最短的时间和最少的精力直接阅读中文资料。2007年当代中国出版社出版汪岚主编的《脱口说汉语》，就是为不懂汉语拼音而希望直接读识中文的外国朋友所设计的。
事实证明，外国人学中文的两个难题“形象难记”、“语音难读”，是完全可以得到解决的，中国文字向世界推广是有明确道路的，推广中文的步伐是可以加快的。
世界经济文化的交流和发展，必然带来世界文字的交流与沟通。中国的汉字具有形、声、义三者结合的特点，今后很可能成为世界上多种语言沟通的“媒介”。作为中国文字的爱好者和研究者，我们当奋起努力，去迎接世界的未来。
