Character is a writing symbol of the human language. It is a visible symbolic system for human beings to transmit information.文字是人类语言的书写符号，是人类用来进行传递信息以便进行交流的可见符号系统。

The code symbols of Chinese characters have various patterns: pictograph, indicator

, ideograph, and phonograph and so on. 中国的汉字密码符号具有多种形态：（1）象形

符号；（2）指示符号；（3）会意符号；（4）声音符号。

This book focuses on the four ways of decoding 4500 Chinese characters, in both Chinese and English. Also Dongba Wen, a local language of Naxi Ethnic Group in Yunnan Province, China is attached to help the readers understand the decoding better. 

 本书重点介绍4500个常用汉字解码的四种方法，除尽可能地以中英文结合的方式逐字加以解读外，还将云南省纳西族的东巴文附录在后面，目的是为了与汉字相对照，帮助读者更好地理解汉语的解码方法。

With the increase of number of the Chinese learners in the world, Chinese plays a broader role in economic and cultural exchanges worldwide. Different languages will surely be mingled further in the future. We, therefore, wish that the simple decoding methods introduced in this book might contribute to the communications. 随着世界范围内学习汉语的人越来越多，汉语在交流中起着越来越重要的作用，在中国与世界经济文化交流中汉语的广泛运用，各民族语言文字的交融定会加深。因此，我们希望本书介绍的简便方法，能促进这方面的沟通。
